The assumption that UK standards will be lower than those of the eu is incorrect. They will be different in some cases, but but not necessarily lower. In some cases EU standards are worse, since they are designed to accommodate these of the least developed member states.

@Meurer_T no it wanted to change its standards to use as a trade barrier. In terms of animal welfare, the UK standards are better than those of the eu.

@stevekildare4053 it is the eu who is playing with fire in NI. The protocol is a serious risk to the GFA. The hypocrisy of the EU was obvious in that it treats the nationalists concerns as important, while being happy to ignore the loyalist concerns, labelling them as an unimportant minority. It was a minority that forced the land border open, a similar size minority on the other side can certainly make a sea border impossible.

@RazorMouth it also provides the ability to have higher standards than those in the EU. Now that the UK has left the EU, the eu has no right to impose its standards, or rules, on the UK, or any part there of.

@RazorMouth and why would the UK flood the eu with substandard goods? It seems perfectly reasonable that goods intended for NI should not be subject to customs inspection. They will be coming from the rest of the UK, not from China. The EU has a poor record of keeping out substandard electronics from China, even with inspection.
