No, the red lines ensure the UK is independent of the EU post brexit. The EU want to load a UK second referendum in favour of remain by offering the alternative as accepting the already rejected withdrawal agreement. Any second referendum should be between remain and leaving on WTO rules.

The EU better hope this does not happen it will be putting a fox in the hen house.

@Night Shade they will, it is really way to democratically reverse the result of the first referendum. You can bet the question will be biased to ensure they get the result they want. Expect it to follow the EU recommendation of between remain and Mrs May's deal. The latter having already been rejected by both sides.

@emmablacksmith6251 when I said both sides, I was not refering to the EU, but the leave and remain sides in the UK. The EU are too stubborn to realise that the UK will not vote for the backstop trap. They would sooner wait for the UK to leave without a deal and be faced with imposing a customs barrier between Ireland and the rest of the EU. The EU have definitely suggested that the UK hold a second referendum, but want to bias the result by making the choice between the rejected deal and remaining. Possible solutions: Sinn Fein what a reunification referendum in Northern Ireland, but no else want this including the RoI and the EU. Investigate a technical customs barrier in ireland, between NI and the RoI. The unilateral or time limited back stop option is reasonable, given that a no deal brexit will leave the EU in the same position as it would be if the backstop times out or is terminated by the UK? The main difference is that the EU would be £39 billion better off, with all other brexit issues resolved. The error is making is underestimating the stubbornness and anger of the UK people, who are willing to leave without a deal. Even the result of a second referendum may not produce the result he EU wants. I will consider your suggestion to change my occupation to that of borough surveyor or should that be borrow surveyor :-).
