It would be better if such crops were not needed. This requires that the climate be stabilised by cutting greenhouse gasses.
The problem with attempting to produce climate change resistant crops is they need to protect against the violent swings in climate, dealing with extreme weather conditions. The instability in the climate will not only bring extreme heat and drought, but also floods, wind and extremes of cold.
Energy is being put into the earth's weather systems, this will lead to oscillations, before it settles into a new stable state. It is very likely that the final state will be more extreme than any plant can survive.
The breaks are off, and the global climate is now in a mad downhill roller coaster ride to hell, that will be increasingly difficult to stop, and near impossible to keep up with, in terms of adaption.
The self serving, man made global warming deniers will soon learn there is no profit to be made from a dead planet.
