@peabase let's not forget the French aircraft carrier underpowered by the reactor from a French submarine. the UK government has repeatedly purchased steel and other raw materials from the EU for its arms industry, more for political reasons than strategic ones. Fortunately not ever the UK government is so stupid as to buy French made weapons. The EU is setting itself up to be destroyed in a conflict with Russia.

@peabase one must wonder why the French want jets, when all they are intending to do is fight police actions in Africa.

@peabase it will be interesting to see if this Franco German coalition produces anything that works. It is clear what the French get out of this, not sure what the Germans expect to achieve. The French have three main objectives: 1) Use their military as a justification to take lead position in the EU, replacing Germany. 2) support their weapons manufacturing base by selling to the rest of the EU. 3) enhance the chance of the formation of an EU army, which they would like to use to defend their interests in Africa. I suppose the Germans would like to block (1) and get a slice of (2). Can't really see that the weapons these two will produce will be much of a match for the big super powers, US, China and Russia. Russia, does not need weapons to bring the EU to its knees, all it has to do is turn off the gas supply.

@peabase you are the one bring UK arms procurement into a report about a Franco German agreement. It is not I who is divergent, but then you do not want to discuss the motives for this agreement.
