Comments by "Nigel Johnson" (@nigeljohnson9820) on "Barnier talks with Spain about Gibraltar ahead of Brexit" video.
Spain is trying to hold on to Catalonia, its chances of getting control of Gibraltar is almost zero, even with the backing of the evil empire.

The EU and Spain has nothing to do with Gibraltar. If the people of Gibraltar want to remain British then they should do so.

@aynurskene7231 the empire will last for a thousand years. No wait, that was the claim for the last time someone tried to dominate Europe. That didn't work out so well.

The hand is not weak, only the player. Can the EU afford to lose £80 billion in trade, plus the membership fee, plus access to UK fishing waters?

@thatdutchguy2882 have you never been told "The customer is always right". It is you who are going to lose trade.
1
@thatdutchguy2882 only because the fish you sell back to us are caught in UK waters.

@thatdutchguy2882 might does not make right, and in a world of WMD size really does not matter. The EU is about as United as a sack of ravenous rats. Big does not mean stable, it just means you provide a bigger target. The federal United States has the largest world debt, so federal and big dies not guarantee economic success. In fact the US shows what happens when a small super rich elite are allowed to take control of a country for their own vested interests. There is a good chance the arch federalists, Merkel and Macron, are about to be voted out of office. The fate of the EU is not defined by brexit, but by its own foolish policies. Brexit may just act as the trigger. Maybe history will identified as a symptom of the sickness that ultimately lead to its destruction.

@thatdutchguy2882 rubbish, the wars that the US have fought post WWII have not done it any good at all, costing it billions of dollars for no real gain. The game changer was the creation of WMD, which has made conventional military power counter productive, even a small state can threaten mutually assured destruction. Economic power has ruled. Ironically Germany has done well by being denied a military, the same applies to Japan. The real winners of the 21st century so far have been the very few super rich globalists who now control the majority of the world's wealth. They now have more power that most nation states. The EU is just a tool in their arsenal, this is why the EU must be destroyed.

@thatdutchguy2882 be specific. I am comparing evil empires or empires in the making. At least China and Russia don't pretend to be democratic. There are all corrupt and are destroying the global environment while making a few people super rich. Power corrupts the more it is concentrated the greater the corruption. Up till now empires have come and gone, it usually not end well for any of them. The EU just happens to be the empire in the making on my doorstep.

Cliff Smith if you mean that Britain stood alone and stopped it, you are correct.
1
Cliff Smith no what we need is stubborn determination and simple bloody mindedness and resentment at being blackmailed.
1
Cliff Smith oh yes, but I have a computer with a spell checker that sometimes modifies my posts just before they are sent. I would be interested to know what major mistakes, though this is at the risk of encouraging a pedant.
1
Cliff Smith I edited one word in one post. Is that the total extent of your pedantry?
1
Cliff Smith because it is the content that is more important. These are post on the internet, not legal or technical documents. Why are you so obsessed with the grammar? I freely admit that my punctuation is rather hit and miss at the best of times.
1
Cliff Smith not sensitive at all. It's your problem not mine.

Cliff Smith I assume your comments are supposed to attract attention away from the duplicity of Spain and the EU. Spain wants Gibraltar despite the overwhelming lack of support of the gibraltarians. At the same time they are struggling to keep Catalonia under their control. If those already in Spain want out, why would gibraltarians want to join and be under Spanish control?
1
@geoffcollins2094 they also voted overwhelmingly to remain in the UK. Give the choice between dictatorial duplicitous EU and oppressive spsin, it is not surprising that they want to remain in the UK. It is said you can take a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. This particular horse wants nothing to do with Spain.
