  2. Putin has just played his card. Russia will send in a reserve "police force" under certain circumstances. In effect, if there is any change in the status quo. Putin, has said he will send in his forces if the opposition becomes violent. This gives Russia the option to send in agents to act as a violent opposition, giving russia the excuse to invade. With its " police force". General strike action that endangers the governments ability to pay its own police force could remove the current government no choice but to resign. Russia, could fund Lukashenko, but that would remove Putin's excuse to invade. Given that Lukashenko and Putin have had reported disagreements recently, Putin may decide that more direct control by his invasion force is the best option, killing two birds with one stone. No doubt, he will use the media to show the people of Belarus, welcoming their Russia peace keepers.
