BcA - Biciclind cu Axel there is no way that Russia will accept the EU four "freedoms". It is difficult to work out if Russia has any opinion about brexit. If it does, it is sending out conflicting messages about if it wants the UK in or out.
There is an argument that brexit weakens the EU defence, but brexit will allow the EU to form its super state army and navy, though I doubt the EU see either as much of a threat.
The risk is that, given a few years, the French will use the EU army to pick a fight with Russia.
For Russia, this is more likely about money. Russia wants to sell into the EU. Germany has already signed a new gas supply deal.
Maybe Russia sees the EU as a fledgling USEU, following the model of the old USSR. The EU democratic deficit must be attractive to Russia, if you want to do Shady deals, it helps if the people cannot get in the way. In future, we can expect EU elections to be as shambolic as those that saw Putin re-elected with a huge majority. So the Russians are not looking to join the EU, they have just identified a potential comrade in arms.
