It would be interesting to know why the UK has not sent samples to the Russians. There maybe technical or security reasons for not doing so. Given the toxicity of the material involved, maybe the sample size is too small to transport. Maybe the sample were destroyed during the Porton Down testing process. Maybe Porton Down does not want to reveal too much about its capabilities.

dave goldfarp so far the UK has taken the moral high ground by waiting for scientific evidence about the agent used. There are many reasons why the UK might be unwilling to supply the suspect attacker with the evidence or details of the method of collection.to maintain the moral high ground the UK needs to either supply samples of the chemical agent or state why they are unwilling to do so. This could be related to security or practicality. The investigation is clearly not over. The method of delivery must be established and the individuals responsible identified.

BeginToThink you maybe correct but it is a matter of international law, and even the Russians deserve to see the evidence by which they are being accused.

Scott C it is dangerous to over think this. I would have thought Putin would have come out well from this. He appears to wish to take Russia back to the days of the USSR and show himself to be a strong leader. Any project that uses the deployment of WMD as a means of influencing public opinion is very risky. People may not react as expected and you cannot please both the home audience at the same time as the rest of the world. If this is a Russian plot it is more likely to be a warning directed at the spying community. The timing is interesting coming so close to the announcement of new Russian weapons and the Russian election. I am not so naive as to believe that western governments are above killing a few people if it furthers a goal, however it is difficult to see any tangible advantage to any western state, the variables involved are too complex to manipulate with any reliability.

Scott C given there has been another death of a Russian dissident in London, someone who was a critic of Putin, it seems unlike this is a plot against Putin. At the moment the death has not been linked to the chemical attack, but it does seem to be a very convenient coincidence. The plot thickens....

Scott C the story is developing very rapidly, if it were not for the fact that real people are dying it would make a very good spy story. The latest is that Russia is going to ignore the UK demand for an explanation. As far as I am concerned this is equivalent to saying I refuse to answer on the grounds I may incriminate myself or in American terms taking the fifth. Putin appears to be taking lessons from Kim Jong-un. He waved his weapons about saying look at me and appears to be killing off those opposed to him. The world now has a Russian tsar, and a Chinese emperor. I am surprised that Trump has not declared himself president for life. Rex Tillerson has been fired soon after criticising Putin and saying that the US would standby the UK.
