The EU has repeatedly shown it is selfish and incompetent. Had the EU met Cameron's demanded at the begining of brexit, it is doubtful if we would have arrived at the very likely no deal brexit. Any analysis of the EU position shows that it is totally unfair to the UK, demanding the UK give up its border integrity to preserve that of the EU. The UK will leave without a deal and the consequences will all be due to EU myopia.

@alexwars8327 this is the tail wagging the dog. The people of northern Ireland what it both ways. It is they who want their cake and eat it. They want to be in the UK and the EU. They must make a choice. They cannot be used to trap the rest of the UK within the EU. If they want to go back to blowing each other up, its their choice. Let them vote for reunification and then they can take there orders from Brussels rather than Westminster. The UK was bound to object to sacrificing its border integrity to preserve that of the EU.

@alexwars8327 it is questionable if the GFA has already been broken by the pIRA. One must wonder if it was just a myopic UK government that signed the GFA or if there was an intention to further bind the UK into the EU. Whatever the intention it has not really worked. The UK will leave, it really cannot afford to stay. It really is decision time for the people of NI, either they stay with the UK or join the RoI. They clearly can it have it both ways. If the join with the Republic they will be ultimately be taking their governance from Brussels and paying for the privilege.

@vinayn9110 the aim of the good Friday agreement was to keep the peace, since the IRA or one of its splinter groups has already broken that agreement, there seems no reason for the UK to honour it. I really do not care if NI votes for reunification, it will provide a financial windfall for the UK and a political, financial and security liability for both the RoI and the EU. If NI is going to vote for reunification anyway, there is no reason for the backstop. If the EU is concerned with border security, the last thing it will want is one or two borders on the UK mainland. It would be a waste of time pointing out the problems both Scotland and Wales will experience as independent nations, let alone members of the EU, you would just argue the opposite.

@vinayn9110 I think it is very funny that they are seeking independence only to hand their sovereignty to Brussels and pay for the privilege. The advantages of EU membership is an illusion. Very few member states benefit and all pay with loss of sovereignty and democracy. The EU is a corrupt protection racket with very few redeeming features. In the case of Scotland, they will be forced to hand the devolved powers they currently enjoy to the EU and will be forced to pay a membership fee. Wales is really too small and poor to see any advantage. In the case of Ireland, the EU and RoI will be forced to make up for the money that NI receives from the rUK. Somewhere in the region of £9.2 billion per year. The EU will also inherit 300 plus year of sectarian violence. Once the brexit situation is resolved Ireland can go back to being as irrelevant to the EU has it always has been and the Irish can go back to being ruled from Brussels. So much for Irish independence.
