@popelgruner595 Macron has spent most of his time in office trying to usurp Merkel's position as unofficial leader of the EU.
France wants the Germans to finance their imperial ambitions for the EU by paying for the EU army. The French cannot match German economic power, but think they can win by emphasising their military power, being the only remaining nuclear power in the EU. This is why it suits the French that the UK is leaving the EU. A number of the other EU member states will benefit by taking some business from the UK and some of the EU organisations that were based in the UK. On balance the EU members will, in the short term, be better off if the UK remains outside the union. The only problem is the loss of money, but if the UK signs the EU brexit deal, even that problem is solved, which is why the UK should not ratify it.
No doubt that will be the primary concern of the ECJ, not the finer points of EU law. If that was applied, the UK would not being asked to pay a devoice bill. But we know the ECJ will always rule in favour of the EU.
No doubt the decision will be delayed until after they know if the brexit deal will be ratified by the UK parliament. Before the vote they will want to give the impression that the UK will not be allowed to reverse article 50. Should parliament veto the deal, they may want to reverse this to encourage a second referendum.
