Christopher Trace coined the expressions "And now for something completely different" later taken up by Monty Python's Flying Circus, and "Here's one I made earlier" which lived on in Blue Peter.

That 15 minute drive was from the West London Air Terminal, operated by BEA on the Cromwell Road. We checked our luggage in there and were transported by coach to "London Airport." Earlier there had been terminals at Kensington and later Waterloo: the latter briefly had a helicopter service to the airport which must have been quicker than fifteen minutes. Waterloo must have been handy for Croydon Aerodrome.

Before those new European-standard road signs were introduced, the direction signs of most use to motorists were those put up by the RAC, a voluntary body. Local government put up finger posts, with separate arrows indicating each destination. The latter were more useful if you were on horseback, or sitting high up at the front of a cart or carriage.
