  1. It seems that America is stuck in the 18th century for business, as it is in religion and law. That's consistent conservatism. It explains why Reagan disbanded the Metric Conversion Board. The same thing happened in the UK: the Labour prime minister Harold Wilson set a date about 20 years in the future for conversion to the metric system, but his Conservative successor Edward Heath cancelled it.
