My branch of the family has been documented in Canada since 1753 but that was because our patriarchal ancestor had to lie that he had just arrived from France, when he was actually from Acadian, to avoid the expulsion. There was an entire branch of our family that were 'convinced'... to leave Cape Breton, Acadia, Nova Scotia during the expulsion of Acadia, (the french name for the Cape Breton area), from Canada to Louisiana. My ancestor was Jean Roux and we now use Leroux or LeRoux.. His progeny were predominantly mixed 'blood' and lifestyle culture with the Ontario and Quebec Algonquin peoples, (of many tribes). and the Cree in central Canada .. So a large chunk of the Canadian diaspora are related to the 'Cajans..'
'Cajan was the shortened version of Acadian, Acadia being the French name for the area in NS where they came from. I'm more proud to be connected to these Americans, than I would be of any other groups in the entirety of the US. (Oh except for my last surviving half sister in Dallas Texas and her daughters, who live elsewhere in the US) ..... ) Les 'Cajans ils sont tous moi cousins !!!
