@joe-bloggs. It was requested by stalin. The Soviets said it was a major transport hub. The allies bombed it to show their support. It was hardly a wacrime. The Germans lost their moral authority on that matter after Rotterdam, London, Belgrade, stalingrad and other cities they carpet bombed.

@gordonferrar7782 we bombed because it was a way to hit Germany. It was believed at the time that you could win wars that way. Putin still, falsely, believes that terror bombing is a viable strategy.

@elliotgillum they war gamed a German invasion of Britain, and gave the Germans air superiority. The invasion forces lasted nine days, until they ran out of ammunition, and then surrendered. They managed to land 50 percent of the invasion force, but they had no way to keep them adequately supplied.
