  2. And for all this talk about not expanding NATO in 1990, in 1997, Russia specifically said in writing that they would respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine and they would respect their right to enter whatever treaties they wanted, including NATO and the EU.

  3.  @RomaTomatoe  Most of the rest of the Warsaw Pact is already in NATO. Maybe if Putin really didn't want Ukraine to join NATO, he'd stop making it so attractive by threatening them. This is someone who famously wept at the fall of the Berlin Wall because it meant the end of the empire. The invasion is why Sweden and Finland (the latter of which was a part of the tsarist empire) have started the application process.
