@spaceynb Clinton and Trump had the two highest disapproval rates of any first time nominees in the history of polling. The combined third-party vote was a little under 6%.

Then, if you live in a swing state, you are enabling Trump.

In American history, the only time that the same third-party candidate or third party got 5% or more in consecutive Presidential elections was Ross Perot in 1992 and 1996 (the next closest was the Socialist Party, which went from 6% in 1912 to 4.9% in 1916). When he had no matching funds, he got 19%. When he got them, he fell to 8.5%. The fact that third parties are obsessed with getting matching funds instead of building the party down ballot shows that they don't actually care about winning, but are a coalition of grifters and dupes.

@spaceynb The reason why third parties don't build is inherent in the nature of the political system. Even in multi-party systems, there are two major parties, and if something proves successful with a third party, the major parties will adopt it. And in our system, third parties aren't even trying to win. (If they say they are, they're either lying or delusional, because unless they can get to 270, the best they can hope for is throwing the election to the House... where it will be decided by Democrats and Republicans.) The problem is that if we just take a wait and see attitude and hope that gravity ceases to become a thing, you run the risk of throwing things to a fascist dictator who isn't even hiding it anymore.
