Do you like Ketanji Brown Jackson? If he became a Republican, she would have never gotten a hearing. Coming from a state that red, it is far better to get the half a loaf that he offers than nothing at all.

@thedissidentleftist6997 Well, if you know that you'll get a Democrat, that makes your job easier. Right now, the big thing I'm doing is working on a state senate primary challenge in PA for a friend of mine from the Bernie campaign (he lives in Philadelphia, and I live in the suburbs) to try to defeat the man alternatively known as the voucher king and the charter king who has opened two charter schools and run them both into the ground. If Fetterman wins the US Senate primary, I'll probably be doing a lot of volunteering for his campaign in the fall. If there's no close districts nearby, consider taking weekends to go to Wisconsin to help out in the Senate race there. It should be a prime pickup opportunity.

@Mr.aAdDies The he is referring to Machin. Sorry this is beyond you. It's very simple: the Republicans have made it obvious that they will never allow a Democratic President to nominate a Supreme Court Justice as long as they control the Senate. If Manchin became a Republican tomorrow, McConnell immediately gets control of the calendar, and the vote gets canceled. Sorry this is too complicated for you to comprehend.

@darkdan3379 Not sure if you deleted your question or YouTube is acting goofy again and only letting me see it in the notifications, but I literally just gave you an example: he is voting for Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court. And spare me about how there are three Republicans voting for her, because if you've been paying attention, none of them said they would until she had the votes to be confirmed. Show me any nominee for anything the last two years who got approved with any Democrats voting No. And I don't know where you get this idea that his seat is "assured." He only won by three points the last time against an uncharismatic lump whose wife was a lobbyist for the biggest manufacturer of Oxycontin. Quite frankly, I doubt he runs for re-election given some of the other things I have seen (look at how many people were convinced that he was ultimately going to accept some watered down version of BBB, as he did have a tendency to eventually do that on these sort of things), and if he doesn't, that seat is as good as gone. The 2020 nominee lost to Capito by 43 points, and even popular Democrats have lost re-election in the past decade.

@darkdan3379 That doesn't make any sense. Yes, the Republicans did start the Supreme Court thing. What does that have to do with the fact that Manchin hasn't gone along with it? If he became a Republican, then they have already made it obvious that they will block everyone that Democrats put up. If your response is "this person votes against me, so I don't ever want him to give me anything," then you're setting yourself up for decades of bad decisions. A majority of Justices on the Supreme Court were put there by candidates who lost the popular vote but got the office in part because enough people in certain states refused to vote for the Democratic nominee as not good enough. My mom has an expression for stuff like that: you're cutting your nose off to spite your face.

@nicholasrapose196 I agree that he's incredibly frustrating. When I lived in West Virginia, I voted for other candidates as a protest, because he was never in any close races. (Had I stayed longer, I would have voted for him in the 2008 primary because his primary opponent ran to his right.) However, I would have voted for him in a heartbeat if those races were close. But what do you expect from someone in a state where Trump won by 42 and 39 points? Maybe if we mobilized ourselves more in close races in Maine and North Carolina, we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. I get the frustration, but we shouldn't take it to self-destructive places. I'm all for anything to embarrass him as long as he does awful stuff like this and won't vote in a way that helps his constituents more often. (In all honesty, I think he's going to retire, because he used to be much better at threading the needle to avoid completely alienating the left, and when he was the deciding vote, he didn't torpedo legislation in the past, just wanted to water it down.) Now, Sinema on the other hand, hers is just baffling. Her state went blue in 2020, barely went red in 2016, and there is another Senator to her left in the state who is far more popular.
