@2727rogers UBI can be a left or a right idea. No one would ever accuse Milton Friedman or Charles Murray of being raging lefties. The litmus test is what you want to do with the existing social safety net. If it is a supplement, it is a lefty idea; if it is a replacement, it is a right wing idea.

@SeanStrife Except he brought the right wing version and tried to pass it off as a lefty version, so he actually did a lot of damage to the idea. Robert Reich has a much better proposal that no one will pay attention to now.

@couchman-sw6jy He specifically told Dave Rubin that his ultimate goal is to completely get rid of the existing social safety net, but that his is more politically palatable. There was no reason to force the poor and disabled to choose while leaving welfare for the rich untouched other than ideology.

@tjw1861 Where did I say anything about donations? It's not about donations. It is about whether or not you recognize the threat of fascism, and, like it or not, there is only one party that is in a position to actually stop it, and it isn't these mealy-mouthed people who refuse to take a stand on anything and wouldn't be in a position to try to win.

@razzan532 Definitely. As soon as you see the details of how he wanted to do so, it was worse and worse.

There was a brief period where I thought that he was a worthy silver medalist. The more I found out, the worse he got.
2
@SeanStrife I saw that, but my point was that bringing up a right wing version and passing it off as a lefty version actually discredits the idea rather than bringing it into the mix.
2
Howard Schultz, you have been dethroned as the progenitor of the most ridiculous statement by an enlightened centrist.
2
@2nd-place Then, who did you vote for?
1
@tjw1861 The gap in American politics won't be filled by grifters who refuse to take a position and work to split the opposition to fascism.
1
@razzan532 Indeed. He took the idea of Milton Friedman and managed to make it even worse by adding a regressive tax to it.
1
@user-roninwolf1981 Indeed. He was a silver medalist for me, but I spent a lot of time warning people about him once I realized who he really was.
1
@SeanStrife Except, as anyone who has knocked on doors will tell you, while the name is popular, a lot of people are actually talking about a public option.

@franknowak9305 Addressed, yes, but Yang had the solution for none of those things . The real problem isn't AI, but who controls AI. Yang wants to keep that power fundamentally unchanged. If done the right way, AI can make our lives easier. I remember the Yang Gang bangers insisting that he is just starting with $1000 "to get his feet in the door," but he told Ben Shapiro that that amount is "magical" and that there won't be pressure to increase it "because it is below the poverty level for one person, so people will still need to work to live any life of meaning" (emphasis in original), so if he's right about automation, his solution would lead to a world of a few trillionaires and everyone else scraping by on less than the poverty level.
