His off the grid friends don't have to worry about being overrun by a foreign military force, so even if they just didn't use electricity or internet, they still need government.

@andyrihn1 It's not as coherent as they think it is. After all, they are against antitrust laws because it violates free association, but they also claim to oppose monopolies, and they oppose unions.

Well, I wouldn't argue everywhere else, but I would say that this guy sees the problem as people lower than himself on the socioeconomic ladder instead of the people who get more in a day than he gets in a year. Never did figure out why it always seems to be the people on the second rung of the ladder who defend the system the hardest, though.

@andyrihn1 It's coherent in the sense that if there are competing claims, they will always side with corporate and monied interests over consumers and workers, but it's not coherent in the way they think it is of just wanting the most freedom for the most people.

@andyrihn1 Ask them about unions, and watch them contort themselves. The idea that workers and employers might have competing claims is anathema to them, but it should be obvious to anyone who has ever worked a job regardless of having read The Peter Principle. Speaking of which, if you have never read it, you really should. It's only about 100 pages, so you can get through it in a couple hours, and it's actually pretty funny, too.

@hudson2441 Agreed. One time I dealt with an individual sovereignty nutjob, and I asked him if he got his way and got to form his own country on his own land if he would a) need a passport to re-enter the United States, and b) if he would have to negotiate a tariff with the federal government, and he got mad and insisted that these were small issues to distract from the larger question. I also asked him how it could be "his land," and he said because he paid for it. When I pointed out that people usually don't get to keep things they buy that are stolen, he insisted that it wasn't stolen at all. As Sam said in another debate, "You think you're floating, but you don't realize that you're standing on a building."

He apparently doesn't know about medical complications, either. If a woman has an ectopic pregnancy, should she be forced to wait until the body ejects what could never have survived? That might kill her.
