@arnesste000 A primary challenge to Manchin is doomed because of just how far to the right WV really is. Arizona is a different story, so you can concentrate your fire. (Manchin's 2018 primary opponent got 30%, which was impressive, but she won the nomination in 2020 and lost to Capito by 43 points.)

@mjchakos1 The context is pretty obvious. Then again, you came by earlier with bad faith arguments, so I shouldn't be surprised.

There are still vestiges of labor in West Virginia. Arizona doesn't seem like it ever really had worker power.

@FMagl Indeed. As frustrating as Manchin can be, he does respond to pressure. However, when your state is R+39, taking half a loaf really is the best that you can hope for. Since Arizona went blue and has been trending that way for at least ten years, I really don't know what her excuse is.

@dcaseng At one point, she was pretty. Also, the people who were box checkers who didn't think that a bisexual could possibly be this bad. It's a shame that she got the attention instead of Tammy Baldwin, who got there first and actually fights for the people. She's who I would have wanted Bernie to pick as VP.

@Hoopla10 Indeed. As someone from West Virginia who lived there for 24 of my first 28 years, you can't replicate Manchin even if it was someone who took the same positions as he does. In all honesty, I have never seen a better retail politician in my life (although older people who saw a younger Byrd said that he was the best they ever saw, but I the time I first met Byrd, he was 81 and the crowds came to him), and in a small state like WV, that makes a difference. We are much better off working to gain seats so that Manchin and Sinema are not the 49th and 50th Democratic Senators. Overcoming the tilt of the state is nothing short of miraculous, and people keep forgetting that he ran against someone who wanted to abolish Social Security, Medicare, and the minimum wage. Would we be better off had John Raese been in the Senate?

@mjchakos1 You want to take half a loaf when the state is D +0.3. Mine is the mirror of William F. Buckley's statement of "as far right as you can go and win." You can't go left of Manchin and win. You can go left of Sinema and win, and as Mark Kelly proves, you can go left of Sinema and do better.

What about Grijalva? Isn't he actually a lefty?
1
@aheroictaxidriver3180 Indeed. He was either the first or second member of Congress to endorse Bernie (I know he and Ellison were the first two, but I don't remember the order, and they weren't grifting like Tulsi). I am a big believer in the idea of nominating people as far to the left as possible who can win. I can at least understand the occasional frustration with people like Manchin and Tester, but they have double-digit headwinds. Sinema has no such excuse.

@barbiquearea The Green Party has been a tool of the Republican Party since at least Nader. It is a group of useful idiots run by grifters to try to split the left to help Republicans.
1
That is so unfair! The only thing they have in common is that they are the worst.

@mjchakos1 Still trolling to insist a Senator who is underwater while the junior Senator to her left is nearly +10 and to her left is the best that the people of Arizona can hope for?
