Spencer Herren Bernie gives a full accounting. Perhaps more importantly, who will pay if we do nothing?

@ice9055 So, you don't believe in democracy?

@ice9055 Also, only close states "get heard." Who goes to campaign in Wyoming for the general election? Or the Dakotas? Or Montana? Or Indiana? Or Kansas? Or Oklahoma? But, yeah, the Midwest really gets heard beyond a couple of states that are close.

@ice9055 Well, you are just fine with a system where the person with the most votes can lose all because you think it helps you (although given your remarks about "illegals and dead people voting" tells me that if the popular vote and Electoral College were reversed, you probably would not see its benefits) and you start going with the "not a democracy, but a republic" in order to justify your opposition to democracy, so I would say that it is safe to say that you don't support democracy. Either you believe in one person, one vote, or you don't. You clearly don't.

Matthew O'Rosco Let us not forget that, because it is based on population, the other reason why southern states wanted it so much is because the slaveholders could use their slaves to increase their representation in Congress and the Electoral College. Even today, it happens that states with very high turnout actually have fewer electoral votes despite more voters from states that traditionally discourage voting (Tennessee has more say but fewer voters than either Minnesota or Wisconsin, West Virginia has more electoral votes but fewer voters than Maine. I cpuld probably find something similar with a number of New England and Midwestern states vs. Southern and border states), so it actually rewards voter suppression.
