@smtpgirl I think so, too. I don't think that we will necessarily get the realignment that we wanted, but I do hope that enough people have finally realized that you can't work with people who want you dead.

@ReR7474 Sam was born in 1966, which makes him Generation X.

People were ready to move on in 2008, but sadly, we elected someone who accepted too much of the Reagan orthodoxy to change things.

We had a dealigning election in 2008. If you look at every other dealigning election in our history (1840, 1876, 1968, 2008), bad things usually happen, because it leads to great instability and civil unrest. A lot of times, it tends to happen when people get sick of a particular way of doing things, but the minority party can't quite find a way to build a new vision that wins the people over. In the case of Obama, it was because he accepted way too much of the Reagan paradigm.

Well, I would argue that the Reagan era ended in 2008. The problem is that Obama couldn't give a new vision to make it happen because he accepted too much of the old. Dealigning elections tend to mean a period of instability, when you look at the ones that we have had in American history: 1840, 1876, 1968, 2008. Until something comes along that can lay a new foundation, bad things are going to keep happening.

@KingJT80 I did what I could to help Bernie win, but like it or not, he didn't have the votes. He may well be the Moses leading the way to the Promised Land but never able to enter, but I don't think it's a coincidence that he did better when there was a Democratic incumbent.
