The biggest difference between the movements rising in the 1930snand today is that the Republican Party was in so much trouble that they could afford to lose several points. Hoover was under 40%. We're dealing with at least 46% of the popular vote that will not move from the Republicans no matter what (that is the low mark since 1972 excluding the two Perot elections).

@aheroictaxidriver3180 Oh, look! An edge lord who thinks he understands it all who is really a tool for the rich propagating the lie that helps them kep their power.

@onomatopoeia162003 I don't care. First of all, not all of those 330MM people are eligible to vote. Second, voter registration does not matter nearly as much as behavior. Third, and perhaps most importantly, Republicans show up no matter what, so the real question is how many actually vote.

Bernie isn't insanely rich and given his opposition to Putin, he wouldn't have been nearly as friendly to Stalin.

@Candyliz2003 No, at most what you have described is social democracy, not democratic socialism. If you get wildly rich from a business that isn't a co-op where your workers also get rich, you are a capitalist. As far as his position on Stalin, he repeatedly opposed any efforts to contain or condemn Stalin. He was, however, ultimately seen as betraying his supporters when he supported the Korean War in 1950, but that's not the position we're talking about, because he was largely irrelevant by then.

@Candyliz2003 If you are thinking of his support of the New Deal, how would him getting pushed put play out? Truman also supported and extended the New Deal, so it's not like getting stuck with President Nance had he remained FDR's number two the whole time. I do enjoy the back and forth and working to get to the bottom of things.
