@captscarlet8793 Bernie knew that if he went after Biden directly, he would get any blame, and he wanted to take no chances of weakening the eventual nominee if he lost. Here's a thought: Bernie knows that some things are more important than his own ego and gratification, and he had no desire to enable a victory by a literal fascist in any way, shape, or form.

@dunker-roo9552 Bernie didn't have the votes. If literally all it took for "the DNC to take it from him" was three well-timed endorsements by one candidate who dropped out months before and candidates in a distant third and fourth despite their strongholds already in the rearview mirror, it wasn't going to last. Maybe the campaign should have ignored BJG insisting that 30% would be enough.

@anthonydelfino6171 There was literally not one state where Bernie wasn't on the primary ballot. Part of his terms of withdrawal were that he would stay on the ballot, and the Biden campaign would not challenge his position. He got reinstated on ballots in New York after they tried to cancel the Presidential primary.

@jessestreet2549 Well, one way to look at it is that this is leverage. The right took over the GOP by voting every single time and eventually becoming a majority. It takes time, but this is how it's done. It took them 16 years, and they had Big Money on their side. We can't give up after six.

@Stinger430 In all honesty, looking back at the last year, and a Senate where Joe Biden is "pushing too far," my real worry is that if Bernie had won, Manchin would have no problem knee capping Bernie and giving him even less. Since Republicans refuse to cooperate, nothing would have gotten done, and people would have blamed Bernie's ideas for the inevitable consequences. It would have made the sabotage of Corbyn look mild in comparison.

@kernalbert4939 Thank you. It is so frustrating hearing the conspiracy theories. They don't help us win, because they keep people from reflecting about how to do better the next time or fall into a fatalism that breeds laziness.

@C Q He's not wrong. I knocked on doors in several places in Philadelphia for Philly DSA and Bernie, and when we knocked on doors talking about Medicare for All, a lot of people who said they liked it were adamant about not wanting to give up private insurance.

@redwildrider Well, Senators don't get gerrymandered, but you are spot on that most members of Congress have majority approval. The perplexing one is McConnell, who never gets above 40% at any poll that isn't a voting booth. He literally doesn't win so much as his opponents lose, because he drags them down with him.

Tylon Holmes If that's all it took, it was clearly a weak lead to start with. What did you actually do to get Bernie elected?
1
@karenfitzpatrick6256 If the voters wanted someone else, that would have done the job. Bernie didn't fail, we did. I did what I could (and I mean actual on the ground work, not just writing a check), but a lot of people didn't, and voter turnout was down in the 2020 primary, even before coronavirus.

@buddygrimfield7954 If Trump won in 2020, that was it. You probably would have been one of the people telling the DKP not to form a coalition with the SPD in 1933.

@C Q How many did you knock on? How many members of Congress signed onto Medicare for All as a cosponsor because of any effort that you were part of? Oh, and since you're throwing out 300MM, are you now saying that scientific polling is false? Did you ever notice the below the fold numbers that give further details other than supporting something called Medicare for All?
1
@NicolasMendoula Because too many people want everything to get better and nothing to change.

@C Q It's like this. I'm a veteran. However, I don't think only about myself. And because I wasn't born into a world where I already had universal and free at the point of service health care, I had to learn what it takes to actually move the needle to get support for such things. I don't go through life thinking that I'm floating on air when I'm standing on top of a building.

@lynneanderson4255 You're missing the point. It was up to voters to ratify it. Like it or not, Bernie didn't have the votes. These accelerationist idiots insist that the people will come to them when things get really bad, but Bernie going from 44% in 2016 to 32% in 2020 shows that a) a lot of his votes were from people who just didn't want Hillary the first time, and b) people who are afraid and just want the threat gone aren't willing to dream. And what did you to actually help Bernie win?
1
@captscarlet8793 And therein lies the rub. As Bernie reminded us in his return speech from his heart attack, in order for society to flourish, we must have people willing to plant trees whose shade they'll never get to sit under. Especially poignant given the timing, and a reminder to me to try to make things better for my (now) six-year-old daughter even if they aren't for me. (For example, if I hear one more person saying "but I had to pay for my college," I may literally scream.)

@redwildrider Agreed that gerrymandering is a big part of what keeps people in the House so long. I just pointed that out about the Senate because this was a debate between two senators.
