The problem with "defund the police" saying is that you ask 5 different people that support it what it means you will get 5 different answers from abolishing the police all together to reallocating funds. That is what happens with all far leftist's slogans. They are vague and when you get into details you get a ton of different answers on a complex issue. According to the Department of Justice police-protection expenditures as a percent of direct general expenditures has not increased but has been around 3.7% since 2000 to 2017. As for funds for more mental illness programs, that has been tried. The Community Mental Health Act passed in the 60s made mental healthcare worse in this nation. While there is a desire to improve mental healthcare in this nation, it isn't as easy as throwing more money at it.

@zammmerjammer you missed my point. I never said that complex issues should have simple answers. However, the left push the idea that what they support are simple solution. Take healthcare, very complex. To them all we need to do is Medicare for all. Or with the environment, all we need is a Green New Deal. With police, the talking point is to defund it. But the further you dig into those issues the more you realize they are extremely complex they are and really the answers lie on both sides of the aisle. Issue is that the far left completely dismisses ideas from the right while not agreeing with their own party. That is why the far left gets nothing done.

@zammmerjammer your two examples are natural events. What I am talking about are policies created by humans to drastically reform existing programs. Also, a lot of it is being pushed on a lie. As I mentioned, police funding as a percent of general funding over the years has not grew. So to say police funding has "ballooned" is false.
