  1. It's an inevitable slide. Developers and property owners see opportunity to make money and sell out. Those who act too late are left with inflated property values they can't afford, so they just walk away and leave whole swathes of cities derelict and depressed for years. Eventually, there's a massive bust where everyone is outpriced, and it tips the balance in the other direction. Then, they go from inflation to deflation and that leads to depression, where owners and property developers can't even give away the property and everything falls into ruins. It's the government's fault, allowing rampant greed and capitalism to destroy ordinary people's lives. Capitalism without regulation is as devastating as war.
