  1. Caligula was nowhere near the psychotic acrobats pulled by Julius Ceaser, who was a psychopathic genocidal narcissist with an overwhelming superiority complex. Caligula traumatized the most elite Roman aristocracy, but the average Roman got along just fine. He was obviously extremely damaged, but with his entire family wiped out and having been brought up by his monstrously perverted uncle Tiberius, it's no wonder he was warped. He was cruel and mercurial in his madly whimsical way, and he spent the entire Roman treasury with insane extravagance, but he received the ultimate punishment in the end - as did most emperors. Unlimited power always leads to unlimited corruption.
