Both suffer from the same affliction of 'my way or the highway'.

Rajiv Malhotra himself is very biased person. He does not like to accept any contrary views.

@balrajparmar5824 Prof. Doniger suffers from the Western Left-Liberal bias and Prof. Jain suffers from Jain bias. A debate between these two will never lead to any satisfactory conclusion because both are extremely set in their respective worldviews.

@nv9991 In 2012 Rajiv Malhotra came for a talk at IIT Kharagpur. After his talk I asked him why Hindustani Classical Music Ragas are played at specific times while there is no such restriction in Carnatic Music. Instead of accepting that he does not know he started telling me that my knowledge is wrong. I know how he will behave in any debate.

Both are biased.

Yes that was quite funny. Maybe she was being intentionally ignorant so as to not anger the Arabs and the Turks.

I may not agree with Prof. Doniger but I don't support ban on her travel to India. Hindu society has to become more mature. Ancient Hindus were much more mature than we are now.

Foreign scholars can provide unique insights which Indian scholars cannot. Indian scholars will be afraid to challenge the popular belief systems while foreign scholars will not have any such hesitation. Knowledge is created when popular belief systems are questioned.

Indian origin people will say Hinduism is about being vegetarian, not eat onion and garlic, have sattvic lifestyle, that's it. What new insight will that provide? We hear these things on TV and social media everyday.
2
She is a mythology professor not a medieval history professor. So I doubt she would have provided any useful insights.

@mac.505 Mayapur? ISKCON headquarters? According to them I am not Hindu because I love eating meat. Why should I accept such people's views?
2
@balrajparmar5824 Prof. Jain is daughter of Late Girilal Jain, former editor of the Times of India. Mr. Jain was known for his extremist views during his tenure at the ToI and it is said that the ToI had to ultimately fire him for this.
2
@nv9991 Rajiv will only abuse Devdutta. His whole point is that because he studied Mathematics in his bachelors and masters degree he is God Almighty and superior to everyone else.
2
@maheshdocherla I like your idea but unfortunately the problem is that both Prof Jain and Prof Doniger have too much deep seated biases in their own worldviews so I am not optimistic about a good outcome.

@rajx7120 Why is vegetarianism must for spirituality? This is something I have never been able to accept. Swami Vivekananda clearly rejected this idea that spiritual people must be vegetarian and I completely agree.
1
@rajx7120 Sect leaders of Hindu sects live life of luxury surrounded by devotees, expensive cars, private jets and palace like Ashrams. I respect them but I don't follow them completely. I find the idea of complete obedience to any sect leader problematic
1
@rajx7120 Largest and richest tradition in Hinduism right now is Vaishnav tradition. All the rich people follow it.

Genuine academics and researchers are never neutral. That is why you need to understand their bias if you want to learn anything from their research.
1
Yes Hinduism texts are for reference and advisory purpose not absolute commands.
1
@rajx7120 I feel that dividing Hinduism into Sampradayas is not correct because common Hindus do not strictly follow any single Sampraday.
1
All of the people you mentioned say only one thing that being Hindu means being vegetarian, not eat onion and garlic, and love the cow as mother. Anyone can teach you this. Why do you need to go to them specifically?
1
@ujwalmokashi6702 Yes very true
1
Everyone knows everything in the age of the internet whether White, Brown, Black or Yellow
1
@subinoyroy Sanatan Subject teachers never teach anything new. They will say be vegetarian don't eat meat and that is what Hinduism is all about. Why invite people who will say the same old things?

@Falconof96 I myself belong to Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh. I don't need any book to confirm that Ayodhya, Varanasi and Mathura were Hindu temples destroyed by Muslims to prove who is the boss. This is part of local folklore here.
