@IC1101 Scientific method? Where in the Quran? And about being "progressive" I am sorry, but it's not 700 B.C anymore, for still being progressive it would need to be updated, e.g. the part about slavery taken out, etc. BTW, caps lock posts are considered rude.

@6thMessenger AFAIK, there are hadiths that are used as justification for actions against gays in Muslim countries. I guess moderate Muslims will tell you that these Hadiths are not considered authentic.

@Kalahridudex Isn't there also a verse stating that there are no contradictions, I believe I heard about it.

@6thMessenger Islam incorporates part of the believes of Christianity, e.g. it includes Jesus, although the picture of him is a little bit different.

@GooGobbler113 Oy veh.

@6thMessenger Yes they are, it also incorporates parts from the old testaments and retells some stories (like for example the one of Jacob) albeit a little bit different, Muhammad came in contact with Christianity and apparently learned from it, he was probably also supported by Jews who acknowledged Jesus as the saviour but were against his deification (ie. him being the son of god rather than just a prophet)

@2cOthers AFAIK the Catholic church is not the only Christian chruch with the idea of the "original sin".

@tinylittlegnat2 But joining Judaism is still possible? What's then the sense of the "seed"?

@colddude2006 Sorry, but becoming something because saying some magic formula does sound just as stupid. It's the believes that count, not some ritual.

@rencrow I don't think that all branches of Judaism uphold an "ethno-religious" identity. On the other hand it seems to be favourable to claim to have blood relationship to Muhammad in Muslim countries, esp. for monarchs.

@colddude2006 Sorry for being so mean, but that's how I feel about rituals in general. What I meant to say is that someone saying some credo alone is not making him a follower of anything in my eyes. If it's the general Muslim belief that you need to recite certain text in a certain language to be one, then so be it, but my opinion about it won't change. BTW, are you sure it's mentioned in the Quran? Because certain rituals seem to be derived from oral tradition (Hadiths).
