@EMPERORMIKI That's true but using the same thought pattern shouldn't relationships of two people with genetic abnormalities be then banned too?
1
@froggymicwop Isn't it then insane and cruel too if people with problematic genes or certain diseases like AIDS have kids?
1
@rjbonacolta > "unfair burden on the society" That's an argument that is/was also used by advocates of eugenics. How would you counter it? Where to draw the line when producing offspring might put an burden on society.
1
@ca91101 Well, the green party is generally considered left, so it's all of the right and the socialist-demicratic party in Switzerland that are against it.
1
@bla34112 Because in the morning of the day you turn18th birthday a faerie will come and convert you from a careless and naïve being into an self-determined individual with both feet on the ground.
1
@kinghumanity I would draw the line where the intent is, if they only have protected sex or one of them gets neutered then there is apparently no intend of bringing "potentially defective children" into this world.
1
@KingArthur13th Apparently you have a strong believe in humanity.
1
@kinghumanity > "Knowingly having sex with this risk is at the height of criminal irresponsibility." Isn't it then also the case persons with genetic endowments for dire disease have unprotected intercourse? I see your point but where to draw the line?
1
@Vazeroth16 Would you also consider sterilization of people with "problematic" genetics predispositions?
1
@SciMethodFTW I believe his point is that something like that shouldn't be centrally controlled, compare to the arguments of controlled/planned market vs. free market.
1
@sigma2 It's proven that kids born of relationships between parents with genetically-based disabilities often have disabilities themselves, yet it is not illegal. Should it be according to you? It can hurt a future (even accidental) child just as well.
1
@EmblemLord What about relationship of people with problematic genetic predispositions? Should the same apply there too? It sounds reasonable but also like Eugenics.
1
@omsrswt Genetically deficient offspring can be also the result of a relationship of people with "bad genes", yet these types of relationships are not banned. Should they be in your opinion?
1
@12235117657598502586 Since she was just his rib, sex between them was basically just Adam masturbating and Cain and Abel are the product of masturbation. :D
1
@hadizamohammed You are probably right, but how to determine what the reasons for a relationship were and where to draw the line?
1
@kibilz Well, then why not banning relationships that can create off spiring with "a high chance of having negative genetic defects" in general?
1
@FranklyMsShankley Ewww, gross, that should be banned.
1
@NeccoWecco Gay sex too.
1
@TheTopSoil They don't get messed up, but problematic recessive genes come much more likely into action. The process of cell division etc. is the same.
1
@TemporalOnline I see your point but exactly this is what makes people with bad genetically dispositions worried. Should the same apply to them? Esp. if you keep in mind that checking for problematic gene markers is getting easier and cheaper every year.
1
@donatshabani Retards having offspring is not illegal, should it be?
1
@DarkScience0 The problem with power dynamic is that it is not measurable.
1
@nosmailliwydocbocaj That could be Libertarian positions just as well.
1
@mrt110883 "As a member of society, do I not have a right to speak out against the contamination of our gene pool?" People supporting eugenics could use the same argument.
1
@Wolfau5 Would you also have no objection to the government making relationships of people with problematic genetic predispositions harder?
1
@thewalrus45 Well then what about gay incest relationships, (ATM) no children can be conceived from such one. ;-)
1
@acuseme The "use of drugs is the exact opposite" in what manner? In that there is no possibility the child may come out fine? Well, I am no expert on drugs but I guess this depends on at which stage, which and how much of drugs were taken. And with "problematic" genes it depends: say the father has a problematic and very dominant gene on the Y-chromosome then all his male offspring certainly won't come out fine, if the mother has a trisomy like Down's syndrome then all children will have it…
1
@HimmiJoe Well, but the law is not meant as a moral codex, so what people consider as sick shouldn't play that much of a role.
1
@Realizalize Swiss is not part of the EU.
1
@froggymicwop So would you also approve of mandatory screenings for such problematic gene defects and potential neutering of individuals with them? The same for people with AIDS.
1
@acuseme Is it then also child abuse when people with "problematic" genes create offspring?
1
@abarai72 Which moral values specifically? Yours? The ones of the majority? The ones of some religious group?
1
@cymruadam Incorrect, as we all have some "faulty" genes.
1
@SilverRedIndigo I remember reading about the uproar about the journal, but it wasn't about "incest" if you define is as a relationship involving sex.
1
@yermomsboxx If people with bad genetically predispositions produce a child then it is very likely harmed as well.
1
@SciMethodFTW In 50 years you can probably hack your own genes anyways. ;-)
1
@BjoernarEricSven …like Ferdinand I of Austria
