We clearly remember the realists claiming that Russia would collapse and the Russian army would retreat after being beaten in the spring, no the summer, no the fall counteroffensive.

Weakness in supply? What proof of that do you have to show for this assertion? Make realistic arguments please.

@HedgehogZone Europe was perfectly safe until NATO started expanding in 1999. The US spends $169B on interest expenses per year (16% of the total budget). In 4 years the US govt with pay 2x as much on interest payments than the military (CFRB org). Maybe its time to be honest with Russia about expanding your military alliance in peacetime, instead of relying on Article 5 which may or may not actually happen.

Yes, that's why people fail to see the wrong in expanding military alliances in peacetime. That's why people call negotiating with Putin "appeasement". They've forgotten the importance of collective security for EVERYONE, not just a few. They've forgotten what war looks like.

@DanishValkyrie i don't see any problem in supplying the forces that just took Avdeevka and beat back all Ukrainian counterattacks today. Do you even have any idea what's going on in Ukraine? Do you have any idea why the UK and Germany are preparing for a military draft? Show me this "proof". I fully welcome adult discussions not childish outbursts.

@bluecanary9417 I was agreeing with the OP's comment "We have taken general peace in Europe for granted". You have no idea what either of us were talking about, and that's okay. We all got opinions.

Its quite crazy how much the media narrative shifted in the past 2 weeks. From Biden and Blinken saying Putin has already lost and the Russian economic collapse prophesied for years, Russians fighting with shovels and washing machines and running out of weapons, to UK and Germany panicking and telling their citizens to prepare for a possible draft. Clearly we were not being told the whole truth.

@ThumperX9 well I can read your comment and respond, so quit being a baby about my opinions and offer any valid counter arguments if you have any.

@ea2ar and what proof do you have to show what they expected? Do you work at the Kremlin?

@oldernu1250 FSB was behind neither the woke politics that disenfranchised multiple generations of fighting age men nor the flooding of Europe with migrants. That's all on YOU.

Russia didn't even take the Georgian capital after defeating their military in 2008. Who said they wanted to conquer Europe? I fear the majority of Europeans have fallen for US fearmongering propaganda about Russia.

New alliances of Russia-haters. You can count Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Moldova out. When the Russians are transferring naval assets from the other fleets, Turkey will not be there to stop them. When the Black sea region boils over, Bulgaria will not be there to assist. If Trump is president of the US, Good luck with your new alliance.

@jaanakivalo7247 why am I supposed to "understand this"? There's simply no proof of it being true. For many years I watched Russia participate as members of the international community in peace. For many years I watched Vladimir Putin as he attempted to negotiate limits to NATO expansion in peace, as well as wait patiently for 8 years for Ukraine to implement Minsk 1 and 2. If Russia is causing trouble now, it'll be because for Europe, peace was never an option. Nobody will ever go to sleep peacefully while a hostile military alliance is metastasizing all around it. Europe made this bed with the US: together you will all lie in it. That's what I understand, thanks for your contribution.
