USA has at no time been a one-party State. USA is a confederated Republic of States, not a pure democracy.

USA is not a pure democracy, it's a Republic with protections for minorities and the individual, like Free Speech and Rule of Law. Ancient Athens failed as a pure majoritarian system, the USA founders knew that.

DW is correct, USA is the standard of Democracy in the world, but we are not a pure democracy, and our Constitution was framed to protect the minority from mob rule. We are a representative Republic, the best experiment in human coexistence so far.

@link10909 "Democracy" is never mentioned in the Constitution or Bill of Rights. "We the People", as "Demos" is Greek for people, is there, but democracy is not. We are a representative form of government, not a pure democracy. The framers of the Constitution feared mob rule and built in protections against one which are being tested again in Federal Court.

@ericgutzat4567 USA is a balance of democratic values and those of the individual. It was designed that way with slow and deliberate checks and balances. Civics is no longer taught well by the Marxists in control of education, so most are ignorant of their own form of government.
