  1. Very hard to dislodge the incumbent MP (PAP or OPP) when you parachute in an area. Everybody got their internal network "Kang Tao" in the area build up over decades, so some will feel their business and jobs will be indirectly affected, when new management/MP come in. Govt link businesses/jobs with the council etc could all be at risk if opposition comes in. This could be made up of 40% of the biased voters who depend on the status quo. A new candidate won't be able to see this network over the short period of the GE (to build relationship it could take years). Another 30-40% could be persuaded, this are people candidates meet. If they are lucky, you might get 20-30% who want change and will be biased to the alternative. So if you are a new candidate never underestimate the number of status quo voters. That's why you see Dr Chee work so hard and still be under 50%, because he needs to convince far more voters than the incumbent.
