  1. This problem is well known. The famous Burj Khalifa built from Australian sand is the most striking example of this phenomenon. I don't think people will ever completely run out of sand but they will run out of cheap sand. Same as cheap oil or cheap water. The world has to move more towards circular economy where there is no waste but all materials are being reused. I am sure as sand will become scarce new technologies of subsidising it will emerge and become economicly viable. Crushing stones, converting desert sand, using ash etc. And also alternative building technologies will lower the use of sand, timber / biomass etc....

  2. We probably can, but it is very expensive hence not commonly used.
