@larsrons7937 It's why I'm not surprised that Ukrainian soldiers have no food or ammo, or that Russian soldiers run out of gas.
It isn't a video game with supply points that you retreat to and they will always have fuel/ammo. There is a long complicated process filled with bureaucracy and possibly even corruption. Something as simple as an officer trying to sound good on a phone saying "Ya we can hold out!" can deny an entire division food/ammo for weeks, even if they don't, nothing stopping another unit from stealing the supplies off the trucks as they're parked in the town they're stationed/resting in before being deployed somewhere else before it reaches the unit it was assigned to supply.
As I said, it's a mess, and likely always will be a mess.
I remember during the American Civil War, many Americans soldiers bought their own guns, and had would buy ammunition themselves, as it was often more reliable than relying on the Army, as getting letters in the mail, boxes from home was often more reliable than a wagon train having shoes/socks.
