I'm liking Orwell more and more. I came to the same conclusion that isms are literally surrogate religions without knowing he viewed them the same way. I first realized it ironically because of an anime Gundam Unicorn put the thought in my head back in 2011, episode 3 I think when it referred to Zeonism (Fake ideology meant to parody Marxism/Nazism). When I applied it to social collectivist movements it was quite striking. In many ways it started my shift away from Socialism myself.

@TheImperatorKnight Well I wouldn't say it unplugged me. It just helped. The short series was based off a novel of the same name. The writer of which was accused of being a right wing imperialist within the anime community. Yet the message of the story was about treating individuals as human beings regardless of what banner they flew. Which stumped a lot of reviews that despite said accusation against him didn't seem the evil war mongering imperialist within said story. Which honestly is kinda the point I think. The evil right wing imperialist was more liberal than his accusers. So when they reviewed his work they struggled to find anything wrong with it. Though knowing revisionist arguments on history, I sure saw a few examples. Like using the Co-Prosperity Sphere which is a reference to thr Asian alliance of puppet states Japan formed in the 30s. Though the hidden message in the show I saw directed at revisionist was. "We lost, stop clinging to the past or the world will leave you behind" Buried in the show, in my opinion.

I think all democrats to an extent have always been Socialist. Look at Woodrow Wilson for example. Before the Democrats it was the Federalist ie who wanted more centralized control.

@Johnathon Young All ideologies evolve in the same fashion as religion. For example compare all the Religions that sprouted from Hebrew, then compare it to the Socialist tree, say start with the proto Socialist from the French Revolution and go from there and you will see a large family tree. They're all Socialist but almost all have different ideas on what Socialism is. Just like all those religions that sprouted from Hebrew all believing in the same god, yet are so radically different from eachother. That does not even include the Collectivist mentalities both religion and Collectivist ideologies share. Which is why so many of them go after religions, as enemies, competitors.
