@Pollandland Consider this, though. Let's say someone quits smoking, sometime in their 40s, and goes on to live another 30 or so years. Would all the medical costs they'd incur as the years go on be more or less than the cost they'd incur if they'd carried on smoking and died at a younger age? I appreciate that's very hard to quantify but it does bear thinking about, if you're gonna use the cost saving argument.
