I attempted retirement in WY and FL Panhandle. Both were failures due to weather and lack of things to do. Hope to get some ideas from this video.

@4uFriday I hear you. I’m saying it had way more things to do than the FL Panhandle. The Rockies are next level. We survived 6 years in Cheyenne and I quit. I couldn’t stay there permanently. We are still in our 40s and both retired. lol We had to spend a sabbatical year in Napa just to regain our souls from living in WY. Then we did Destin and FWB thinking it was our forever home, but the area and the subculture (Alabama style living) didn’t match our lifestyle . So we reset and moved to Tokyo. Cost of living here is half of what we spent in FL, quality of life is unmatched.

@4uFriday Both Florida Panhandle only has the beach. Nothing else to do there. You would have to drive 4+ hours to find other amenities, shopping, etc.

@4uFriday That area of FL is just weird as heck. I wish I would’ve moved to the real part of FL (Tampa/Orlando/Miami). I had a niece living in Navarre, so we decided to move closer to a relative after 22 years in the military. We only lasted 15 months in the Panhandle and sold our 15 month new build house and our cars. Niece eventually also moved 6 months after us to VA.

@4uFriday Lived in Fort Walton Beach and Destin. Pensacola was nice the times I visited. Small beach town vibes, plus also a college town which always keep towns alive. Closer to NOLA for big city amenities. Other than that there is ATL and Tampa/Jacksonville/Orlando. All 4+hours drive. Like I said, isolated. In Cheyenne I at least had Denver 90 minutes away and the entire RMNP.

There are no palm trees in most Fl beaches
