I just moved from the Florida Panhandle to Tokyo Japan and my cost of living is now 50% less than in Florida. It’s so cheap here. Better food, better life, and a trillion more things to do than in FL.

@gangstagummybear3432 Zero opinion. I just look at my bank account at the end of the month. I moved from CA to FL and cost of living stayed the same. I thought I was going to save money in FL, but I was wrong. Coming to Japan I also had the perception of Japan being very expensive. But the only thing here that I find expensive is fruits. Grocery bill is half of what I spent in FL. Eating out in FL averaged $250 per outing, something my household of 5 does 1-2 times a week. In Japan our highest restaurant outing has been $75, and no tips necessary. I can go on and on.

@martypoll Same. It’s what we are told in the US about Japan. Then I get here and my monthly living expenses go down 50-60%, without changing anything I have done most of my adult life.

@janeentumbao8690 Less natural disasters than the USA. 😅 I lived in CA for 2 years, had earthquakes and fires, had tornadoes, fires and polar winters in WY, hurricanes in FL, scorching heat in TX, lol. Can’t escape Mother Nature

@fesma94 I don’t speak Japanese. Health care is affordable without insurance, but I do have an insurance that is accepted in varios locations. I live in Western Tokyo, so I do have more options.

@gangstagummybear3432 Gotcha. I was only comparing Florida food and things to do vs in Japan. I traveled all FL, but I was living in Destin. I’m pretty sure Japanese cuisine is better than anything in FL. And things to do, not a trillion more, but FL is very limited. No snow, no mountains, etc etc. I have a house in Batangas. Just came back on Wednesday from visiting for a week.

@gangstagummybear3432 Japan has all weathers and beaches. Soul Food is ok, but extremely limited. There was no soul food in Destin, lol.

@btl4220 I’m retired ( retired at age 40 in 2014) so I’m trying to live everywhere I can.

@gangstagummybear3432 Soul food is not my go-to. Had it many times throughout my lifetime. Not in my top 20 list of cuisines I like.

@StuStevens-rn7rb I thought the same my entire life.

@JBoy340a True about the tables. I leave my phone and bags at any food court to go get food and nobody even thinks about snatching them. I live in Tachikawa in a 4br house. We travel a lot and eat out more than half of the time. Still half cheaper than cost of living in the Florida Panhandle.

@757-David Just a normal meal with appetizers and dessert, and tips which defaulted to 20% for some reason after covid. No alcohol. Very simple math: Appetizer $10 Main course $20-$25. Dessert $10 Tip $8 Per person. I moved to FL from CA, and the prices of everything was the same. Only item cheaper was gas.

derrickbridges2611 Tips not allowed. People get paid a living wage, and provide an outstanding service. It’s unreal.
