  1. I tried retiring in Florida but it didn’t work out. I bought a house in Fort Walton Beach. The Panhandle was just too weird for me and it was more like Alabama and zero Florida. Maybe if I would’ve moved to Tampa/Orlando/Miami, the experience would’ve been much better. Now I live in Tokyo Japan and never been happier.

  2.  @majorsynthqed7374  I did some research, but reality was harsh. It’s Lower Alabama, but the State line was drawn incorrectly, so only on paper it’s Florida.

  3.  @MrWelfarehater  I figured I had moved to the wrong side of Florida. I have Family in Tampa/Orlando/Miami, so I visited a few times during my 18 months in Florida, but nobody ever drove up to FWB to visit me 😂😂😂 Can’t blame them. Sold my brand new build house, cars, and moved to Tokyo.

  4.  @Odalisca738-d7d  Language is difficult, but you can get by with apps and pointing at things. And my cost of living is now half of what it was in the Panhandle even though I am eating out and traveling 90% more than when in FL.

  5.  @tswierczek  And cost of living is half the price. It’s also incredibly safe. I see 5 year olds using the train system by themselves. And they all make it safely back home from school. It blows my mind. The population is super civilized and polite. Excellent customer service everywhere and no tips required. It’s a good place to live for sure.

  7.  @Curmudgeon2  Cost of living in Tokyo is half of what it was for me in Fort Walton Beach. Tokyo is super cheap. The tourist areas are expensive, but still way cheaper than Miami, NYC, SF. And Tokyo is huge, it’s not just Shibuya/Shinjuku/Ropongi.
