  1. The 6.8 SPC is more powerful in terms of energy but it has worse recoil, worse trajectory and worse time to target which makes it suited for close range engagement but not really as a general purpose combat caliber. SOCOM stopped the 6.8 SPC field trials because of Afghanistan.

  2. The issue is that for the average grunt more recoil correlates with worse marksmanship, and the bullet weight is high enough that it essentially forces troops to carry less ammo.
