The USAF still lost about 200 of them in SAR missions, though.

@SheepInACart There's supposedly a two second delay when flying Predators. Latency isn't defined by speed of light, the speed of the transmit signal is negligible compared to the latency in the system itself. Every time a signal has to be received, processed, and sent back again adds a few hundred milliseconds of delay.

Less. A jet only retrieves enough energy from the hot exhaust to drive the compressor blades, then sends the rest to the rear for thrust. A turboprop slaps an extra turbine section to collect more energy, and uses it to drive the prop. By the time the exhaust exits the turbine, it's colder than on a turbojet. And then the prop wash also mixes the exhaust with colder air.

Because none have been made in decades, so they'd have to be re-engineered from scratch to adapt them to modern factories and processes. It contributes by supporting forces that won't get jets, helicopters or artillery support otherwise.

@thethirdman225 "true CAS" is the worst straw to grasp at. Air superiority or not, warheads have to drop on foreheads.

@texdawg8980 High in the sky is safe when all the opposition has are AKs and maybe a PK. RPG-7 rockets self-detonate at around 900 yards.

The other way around. Jets like the Su-25 are a MANPADS magnet. This is hard to target because the exhaust is much cooler.

@thethirdman225 It means that whatever it takes, pilots are going in. With CAP following along to fight the battle, or with just enough missiles to fight off the enemy air power.
