  1. Yes, but the critical issue is that 300MJ had to be put into the laser generator to get that 2 MJ, which is why people are saying it's zero point something percent efficiency. However it's a lab setting, I heard the laser could be 40% efficient if set up for power generation rather than lab experiments.

  2.  @Humanaut.  The point is that you can provide 2MJ of energy into fusion and get back 3MJ. That's the main takeway, the reaction is net positive in energy. How that 2MJ was provided wasn't efficient at all. The thing is, we don't have to use that specific inefficient apparatus for power generation.
