It's difficult to look at China's rise and think they were "exploited". They were compensated fair and square, to the point we fed steroids to what would become our number one enemy. The fact that they fumbled the bag is solely on them, not us.

Japan had a massive economic crisis in the 90s. It wasn't sunshine and rainbows for them.

That could work. If that plan was put into motion 20 years ago.

Yeah but increased skillsets and automation come at a cost. Should have escaped the middle income trap first.

@TokyoTaisu They'd have to get paid wages which defeats the purpose of automation.

Pretty sure tons of companies are pulling out of China.

Language and racism makes that a complicated proposition.

RFK deserves it.

@@qtsssim Insurrection? At least an insurrection would require manpower to put down. Useless boffins are a much greater drag.

@piccalillipit9211 His classmates are not clever. The Chinese can learn foreign languages and AI will provide translation. There's zero point in learning Mandarin right now because China no longer needs Mandarin-speaking foreigners.

@festekj Max Blumenthal switched sides on the Syrian civil war after being paid off by Moscow.

People will do the pullout method combined with ancient remedies (spermicide/decreasing sperm mobility) and checking for ovulation.

@danielstapler4315 And they buy Chinese-made.

A booming economy? Why? Significantly lowered internal consumption, increased wages discouraging exports. The worst of both worlds.

Less people making money and producing goods too. It's a death spiral. They don't need to be populous. They need to sustain their economic growth. The demographics do not allow it. Japan and Sweden are higher income countries. So they escaped the middle income trap. China hasn't.

@lubricustheslippery5028 As you sustain fewer people, you actually get less workers. If you start with 500k men and women and each have one child, you will have 500k adults and 250k children. Those children, assuming an even male-female split, grow into adults and have 125k children. In each generation, you will have twice the elderly to take care of compared to every working adult. You HAVE to grow the economy, or else you stagnate under the burden of your dwindling population. If you have a growing population you can counteract a stagnant economy because at least you'll have more labor. With a population collapse, each laborer has to be significantly wealthier than his parents or else the system crumbles under its own weight.

@lubricustheslippery5028 But Japan made it out of their middle income trap. China hasn't.
