There seems to be much confusion about the Deutschland Class fuel. There were many Diesel powered cargo vessels starting in the 1920', these traded world wide with a problem. The main advantage of using diesel engines was the fuel consumption, much lower so the diesel onboard will give a better range/duration. The Kriegsmarine had I think six purpose build supply ships which were designated to resupply the Deutschlands, Submarines and Merchant raiders. The Altmark had loaded a full cargo of Light Texas crude which it supplied to the Graf Spee. The Graf Spee then distilled the crude basically getting rid of the lighter parts and enclosed gas. The fact that the Graf Spee seems only to distil enough to fill the day tanks seems like very poor planning. I have doubts that the bunkers on Steam Ships could be used, its very thick heavy fuel that has to be heated before it can be used.

It was why Bridges were enclosed and air conditioning fitted

Two ships that have had there oil removed are the Royal Oak and the Blucker. What happened to the oil from the ships sunk in WW2 that escaped as the result of actions ?

@tominiowa2513 I think you will find the bunker fuel for steamships and the bunker fuel of today for diesels is very different oil. The oil steam ships used were kept heated so it did not set.

@tominiowa2513 No, its does not need to be heated to be stored or pumped, the oil used in Steam Ships did
