There are periods of service that ships would have mixed crews, for example the Bathurst Class Corvettes, built in Australia for the Royal Indian Navy they were delivered to India by a combined Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy and Royal Indian Navy crew. The other obvious cases would be when the Royal Navy handed over ships to friendly navies, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish etc and even the Soviet Union they will require a handover/support period until the new crew were familar. The Armed Merchant ships used by the Royal Navy often had a mixed Royal Navy/Merchant Navy crew.

Steam Ships require to "Bow Tubes" where compressed air is blown through the boilers to clean out the boilers of carbon build up. This produces large quantity of very black smke over a period of time.

For long service of a ship "not a museum type ship HMS Victory, USS Constitution" I suggest HMS Unicorn, launched in 1825 in ordinary and immediately used as a training vessel by the Royal Navy until 1969. Still afloat and now a museum ship in Dundee.
