I would estimate that more than 80% of the worlds merchant ships have been renamed and many have been renamed many many times. Those that haven't been renamed are new. Professional seafarers have no concerns about changing a ships name, maybe YouTubers do?

@Drachinifel The navies of a country act the same as shipping companies, they name their vessels how they want to, most are newbuild. You do not need to go go back 500 hundred years to find a renamed vessel in the Royal Navy. I am sure the Royal Navy has had a hundred renamed vessels in the past 100 years, indeed they exist in the present Royal Navy Fleet. The myth about renaming a ship as being unlucky is more Harry Potter than history.

@Yandarval Not sure of how that is related to the post, maybe you have a conspiracy theory? Your post is insulting to the Merchant Navy, it was there sailors that ensured the supplies to Britain were done. and the Nazi's defeated. The Merchant Navy had higher percentage losses that the Royal Navy, the Army and the Airforce.

@egoalter1276 I have spent many years at sea becoming a Captain, sailed with hundreds of professional mariners and never heard a single one talk about the myth of changing a ships name being bad luck. what is your experience?
