I think prior to recommending a restoration of HMS Unicorn you actually visit her? She is as original today as when she was launched nearly two hundred years ago and is the oldest British built Warship afloat.. I have visited her several times and to see her as the her builders saw her is stunning. I have visited HMS Trincomalee and HMS Victory but both now have little of the original ship left after numerous refits, both a credit to there restorations, but the old story about the Richards axe, is it original. Yes its had three new handles and two new heads comes to mind. I was saddened by the plaque on HMS Victory, Here is the spot where Nelson died, Except the deck was replaced a hundred years ago and probability burned. I see that HMS Unicorn received a Heritage Fund Grant of twenty nine thousand pounds, probability not enough to restore a car never mind a two hundred year old ship. Please support the The Unicorn Preservation Society. I also had the privilege to visit HMS Dolphin of 1882 before her sad end in 1980. The only other original age of sail vessels are little harder to visit as they are in Port Stanley.
