Loss is calculated to contribute only 3 % to Singapores GDP. Hardly an earthshaking number. Anyway, Singapore would find something else to cover up for it in the time the canal is build. Than better transportation than merrier for the entire region.

I have the impression the projects as shown in this video are too gigantic, too difficult. Why not start with smaller scale projects first, shorter pipes, small reservoirs, gain experience with greening, and then gradually move forward?

Germany's approach was diplomacy and good-will. That should always be the course taken. If in the end the other involved party throws all good-will against the wall, ignores diplomacy and chooses war, you can not blame Germany.

Those in his circles who are still supporting him: It is probably the last chance to walk off and distance yourself from him. If you do not act now, you will be treated as traitor. In the modern world you could not win a serious conflict anymore, if you do not have allies and friends. A small local conflict may be. But even Taiwan would be a lost case for China before they even started, unless they have allies to support them.

@wolferup In the last century Germany has started 2 wars against Russia. Therefore, it is a highly sensitive issue. We don't want that ever again. Germany won't send weapons to the Ukraine, that later may fall into Russia's hands. If the anglosaxon world can't understand this, so be it. @rationalsamrat3247 The eastern countries joining the Nato have no Nato stationed in them. These are merely a support contracts for defense. With the exception of the 3 small Baltic countries (for obvious reasons), the line of Nato stationing weaponry is still at the borders of 1997. Germany has no public shelter since 2007. The German Army was kept in a kind of a suspended mode since more than 20 years. Same applies for other EU armies. Military budgets were cut so much that the US kept asking Europe since 20 years to spend more money on military. France wanted to leave the Nato saying it has become useless. We will revert all this as quick as possible. We made trade agreements with Russia. I.e. Germany buys 55 % of it's gas from Russia. A second pipeline was short before being finished. Much to the hate of the US, our politicians tried with trade and diplomacy. Now the US is standing there in front of us saying: "See, we told you!" And now you people dare to tell us Europe provoked the war?? And this even in view of the recent happenings in the Ukraine?? You are all childish victims of China propaganda.

You can only have effective alliances with countries who are standing on a similar political platform. It is not possible to form successful alliances in between countries that have opposed goals.Therefore, Pakistan would have to accept their role as a domestic helper for China, or the contracts will be only useless paper.

@thegeneralist7527 If the Chinese can green small patches of the Gobi, then you can do that, too. Australia has such a potential. Singapore has gained vast experience with water management. They learned it from the Dutchies, I think. Both countries would have a lot to give eachother.

@SilentFood If a rolling effect is included the loss of GDP would amount to 7 %. But you have to take the 7 % as a theoretical figure, since some of the business and services would re-align. Until the channel had been finalised, there was time to re-adjust in the concerned industries. Not nice to loose up but nowadays it would be hardly an earth-shattering situation for Singapore. I have these figures from an official answer of the government, source not anymore available.
