  1.  @joshsquatch7474  This whole thread is so terrible and misinformed. It's gotta be trolling. Also, Mikhal himself talked about how the M1 Garand bolt influenced the AK47's design. I'll never understand how people think a tilting bolt operation was stolen and turned into a rotating bolt system.

  2.  @ywe3  lol seriously? A poly receivered short stroke piston that's clearly inspired by the AR-18/180 is the modern version of the STG44? Right. STG44 has a fair amount of issues with it and it's development. It's round is over a half mil wider in diameter, leading to a much longer magazine length. It's metal pressings are more complicated. And it has a trigger design that's an absolute nightmare. It was a ground breaking design for it's time, but it is far from perfect. The AK-47/AKM is also far from perfect, but the STG44 is not inherently superior. At a very small (but massively important level) the AK magazines are far superior to STG mags. And a gun without a mag is hardly a gun at all.

  3.  @ywe3  The STG had all the time to develop after it's introduction, and it ultimately was seen as a dead end. Specifically for that exact design. The next steps are see with the eventual CETME. The design had years of development. Also it's presence in random conflicts is no argument for a specific designs superiority. M91/30s show up in nearly every conflict, that doesn't mean it's better than a 240 bravo. They show up there because of the same reason as STGs - arms dealers.

  5. @toeff7852 The rational behind CETME is all due to the STG45. I get that it's Mauser and not the original manufacturer (DWM I think). Their conclusion is accurate; STG44 is still too complicated and expensive. Taking the system to a roller delayed setup is far more cost effective. Mere refinements of the design wouldn't be as beneficial as a complete simplification. Same sort of situation with the AK vs. the STG. AK is perhaps less refined looking, but it streamlined the concepts in a way the STG44 didn't.
